Week 9

Hi! It is week 9 already! I can't believe that!

I put your answers to the 20 questions outside my office door on Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm but many students did not pick them up? I will leave them outside my office door on Monday until I go home (2:00pm), so please pick them up! I think this is only your first draft of your answers so I don't expect your answers to be perfect for your interview with me in Week 9. Just do your best!

Speaking of your interview questions, I haven't made a voicethread #2 yet. I will do that Monday night so I'll give you until Friday, October 29th to finish that ok? I was very busy over the weekend because I went on a family trip with my wife's family. I hope I didn't give you stress about that?:)

Other news? No, not really...in class this week we'll start talking about how to write resumes which will be fun!

See you in class on Tuesday!

Week 7:

Hi everyone!

I'm sure you are all busy preparing for you Midterm tests this week! I just want to remind you of a few things which are important.

On Tuesday (October 19th), I would like to give me all your answers for the 20 Interview Questions I gave you in class. I will check them this week and then you can pick them up on Friday (October 22nd) or next Monday (October 25th) outside my office door (B305). For your Oral Tests (during Week 9), I will be asking you random questions from this list of 20 questions.

Also, I will be posting another voicethread (#2) this week so that you can practice answering the Interview Questions (11-20). Please finish voicethread (#2) by October 26th. I will check it after that date!

Last thing. This Tuesday (October 19th), as part of your writing test, I will ask you to pick three interview questions (from a list of five on your test) and write complete answers for each of them. I will choose these questions from questions 1-10 we studied in class. In other words, you don't have to prepare answers 11-20 for your writing test, only your oral test!

If you have any questions, please ask your friends or call me (018-432-7705).

Week 6

In week 6 of this blog, I would like to talk more about Voicethread. I showed you a short demonstration in class but I think it is a little confusing so I would like to attach an instructional video here.

I think Voicethread will be a great way for you to practice your interview skills and will give you a chance to listen to your own voice. How confident are you? Do you speak loud enough? Are you answering too fast? Do you make many mistakes because you are nervous? These are all good questions to ask yourself before you go to a job interview!

If you need any help using Voicethread, please talk to your classmate(s) or visit my office anytime during my office hours.

Talk to you soon!

Week 5

Sorry, I'm a little late writing this blog entry for week 5! I've been a little busy these days! In our last class, we talked about how to prepare for a job interview. We talked about how important your appearance is and how you can leave a good first impression with the employer. We also discussed how to look confident and 'sell yourself' during a job interview.

Because talking about your work experience and your qualifications (including education) are the two most important things in a job interview, I asked you to think about both of these areas for your homework. I think most of you don't have much work experience so how can you sell yourself by talking about your qualifications during a job interview? What qualifications do you have? I think it is important to think about what makes you special (or different from other people) before you go to a job interview. It will help you standout from other candidates.
